Hi, I am Subham Pant, studying Intermediate second year in Himalayan Inter College (HIC), Chaukori. My native place is Berinag, an old tea estate town, located about 10 km from Chaukori. My mother is a teacher and works in a public school in Berinag. My father passed away a few years back. I am a recipient of a scholarship from Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF).

I strive to excel in my academics studies as well as in my personal pursuits. HIC offers a great learning environment that makes us curious and motivated to pursue our studies. The natural environment in which it is located makes my mind fresh and alert. I love going to my school and attending classes. My favourite subject is mathematics. I like solving numerical problems and finding answers is a joy for me. My dream career is to become an educator and I would like to pursue software development. I find programming a fun-filled activity.

When I have leisure, I learn to make sketches and paintings. I love playing harmonium in my spare time. I like to watch movies and my favorite one is ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’. I also like to listen to music and my favorite musicians are Arijit Singh and Benson Boone. I have been to Nainital, Haldwani, Haridwar and a few other places in Uttarakhand. While rivers and lakes uplift my mind, temples elevate my spirit.

I am a member of a youth group ‘Nav yuvak mangal dal’ based in Berinag. We organize  cultural programs during important festivals like Ramnavmi, Janmashtami, etc.

The challenges faced by the hill communities are many. For instance, in the rainy season roads get blocked by landslides. Transportation is difficult. There is a lack of quality college education after 12th class in hilly areas. The existing ones offer a limited number of courses. A better college with multiple courses and proper sports clubs is the need of the hour. I would like to contribute to the betterment of my native area by doing work based in my town.

At HIC, I enjoy learning under the guidance of  nice and helpful teachers along with my wonderful friends. My suggestion to my juniors: Our school is providing us with many facilities like an excellent library, nature education program, vocational skills, various clubs for extra curricular activities, National Cadet Corps etc., so we should make the best use of them for a holistic and well rounded development.
