Himalayan Education Foundation scholarship recipient Bhavesh Karki hails from Lohathal village near Chaukori. He passed Intermediate from Himalaya Inter College in 2023 with specialization in accounts, economics and business studies. Subsequently he joined the Bachelors of computer applications (BCA) course offered by Uttaranchal university and is currently located in Dehradun.
Bhavesh comes from a rural background. He is an only child and his mother is the sole breadwinner of the family as his father died when Bhavesh was a young child.. Thanks to the scholarship from HEF, he was able to study at HIC, Chaukori and passed his graduation with flying colors.
As a student of computer applications, Bhavesh is interested in Cloud computing and how it’s driving the Information Technology revolution. His other subject of interest is Business studies. He follows the case studies available online from sources like Youtube that inform and inspire him.
Bhavesh wants to pursue an MBA course after his BCA studies and would like to become a Business Analyst. He is also interested in fast growing sectors like event management and tourism which are creating jobs and economic empowerment for youth.
Bhavesh currently is based in Dehradun, capital of Uttarakhand state. Living in a city, he thinks, helps him in understanding modern society and how humans not only survive but also can thrive in it. Having come from a village in the Himalayan hills, he feels his native place connects him with nature and peace.
Playing Badminton is Bhavesh’s favourite pastime. He relaxes by reading and listening to calm music. Honey Singh and Arijit Singh are the singers he adores. Be it reading books or watching inspirational videos, he is always inspired to learn something new. He loves the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and his favourite web series is “Lucifer”. The pilgrimage to Kedarnath is his most calming and memorable trip. While in Dehradun he goes to Tiger waterfall for a sense of peace.
Bhavesh is a member of an organization called Shri Nityanand swami Jan Seva Samiti, a charitable society.promoting youth welfare by conducting educational and vocational programs for their economic empowerment. He feels the hill population needs to address the challenges posed by modern development as well as utilize the opportunities it offers for their self improvement.
Bhavesh wants to use his experience in the IT sector to make people aware of modern technologies so that they use them in their communities to achieve a better standard of living. He thinks green technology is the answer to the environmental threats posed by the climate crisis.
While recalling his time at HIC, he remembers his favourite time when he became the head of the discipline department and led a team managing various events in the college annual festival. His advice for the current HIC students : “Gear up and learn at least one technical or vocational skill which is going to be really helpful in future.”
