Bhagwati Prasad Bisht : Education for Improving living standards in the Himalayan hills

Bhagwati Prasad Bisht is currently in the 3rd year of Bachelor of Science degree which he is  pursuing at PG College, Berinag. He studied up to Intermediate from Himalayan Inter College( HIC) and graduated in 2020. While at HIC, Prasad received a scholarship from Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF). He is interested in continuing his studies in Engineering and technology. 

Hi Prasad, Good to talk to you. First let’s know about your family.

I belong to a middle class family. My father is a shopkeeper. My mother is a homemaker.We presently stay in Berinag, a town located some 10 km from Chaukori. We come from Gadera, a small hamlet near Berinag.

Why did you choose to pursue a degree in science? What are your subjects of interest?

I have been interested in Physics from my childhood. So it’s natural for me to go for science studies.

What career would you pursue ideally?

I have an interest in engineering.

I love singing and playing football

What is your favorite book? or movie? 

Book: Wings of fire by APJ Abdul Kalam.

What is needed in your village that would better the lives of people staying there?

Medical facilities 

How would you like to contribute to the betterment of your native village / area?

I love the hills and rural areas very much. I  want to contribute something that would hopefully be of benefit not just for the present villagers but  for the later generations too. I would focus on providing the village with 24 hr electricity and water supply and also increase the number of paved roads. Increased connectivity can help stimulate the economy that will result in better employment opportunities and improved standard of living. Education plays a key role in achieving it.

Work hard and achieve your goals.
