Sanjay Singh: No half measures to become a Full Stack developer

Sanjay Singh Gariya is an alumnus of Himalayan Inter College (HIC), Chaukori. He belongs to Gadera village near Kapkot, which is about 70 km from Chaukori. His parents are both farmers working on their family’s agricultural land. Sanjay received a scholarship from Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF) during his school years at the HIC and passed the intermediate examination in 2020.

Hello Sanjay, Welcome to Himalayan Vaani. Let’s learn about your educational journey after you graduated from the HIC.

I have been interested in mathematics since my childhood and wanted to specialise in that subject. So I am presently  pursuing a Bachelor of Science (honours) degree in Mathematics at Ramanujan college that is affiliated with the University of Delhi.

What career would you pursue ideally?

Full Stack software developer. I would like to work on programming both  front end and back end parts of the computer software. ie. both on the client side and server side development.

What else are you presently engaged with?

I would like to apply for the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam (SSC CGL). It is a national-level exam targeted at graduates to recruit them for various job profiles in government departments.

What higher studies/ skills would you like to acquire?

Post Graduate degree. So I am preparing for the Central University Entrance Test for Post Graduate studies CUET (PG).

Where do you live now?

New Delhi

What did you like about living in the hill country for school?

Peaceful environment and pleasant climate.

Tell me what you like about living in the city?

Better and more opportunities to learn and grow.

Tell us about your leisure activities and Hobbies.

I like playing cricket and  football when I am free.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Try new things like cooking a variety of dishes and visiting new places.

Do you travel? Let’s hear about the places you have been. And what you liked.

Yes, I love to travel and experience different places. Presently as a “Delhite”, I explored many places in and around Delhi. Knowing about its history and culture is mind expanding.

.

What are the challenges faced by the hill communities?

Access to quality basic and higher education is the main challenge faced by the village students. They have to go a long distance from their native place to pursue their studies.

What is needed in your village that would better the lives of people staying there?

Schools for better education and Cottage industries for employment opportunities.

How would you like to contribute to the betterment of your native village / area?.

I like to counsel students of our village about various career and  employment opportunities and how they can get into different types of jobs:

What advice would you give the current HIC students?

Try to learn what is beyond the school curriculum. Acquiring skills like coding and app development, blockchain technology etc. will help you a lot in the future, if you are interested in the software technology sector. Be curious about what’s going on in the industry. And be ready for the next wave of developments.

And importantly learn to accept responsibility for yourself. You can’t always blame others for things that don’t go your way.

We at HEF wish Sanjay Singh Gariya all the best for his forthcoming entrance examination and also in his future endeavours and aspirations.
